06 June, 2014

On June 7, at the territory of the museum-reserve "Kolomenskoye" the IV International historical festival "The Times and the Epochs" opens – the largest festival of historical reconstruction held in Russia and the largest one in the world organized in metropolitan area – says the press service of Moscomtourism.

The present festival is dedicated to the 100-th anniversary of the World War I beginning.

This year the festival has attracted the record number of participants – 2200 of 48 clubs of historical reconstruction from 14 countries: Russia, Great Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Bulgaria, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Japan.

In "Kolomenskoye" on the territory of 7 hectares more than 100 tents are set.

The festival will start at noon on June 7 by solemn parade of the participants.

On the first day the military show "The outbreak of the war. The arrival of the royal family to the front in 1914" will be staged. Then two major battles will be reconstructed. One of them is the attack on the fortress Osovets that is memorized in the history as "The attack of the Dead" when 60 Russian soldiers have put to rout some 7000-strong German army. Another one is the offensive operation of Russian troops "Brusilovsky breakthrough" during which the armies of Austria-Hungary and Germany have suffered a serious defeat.

On the next day, the festival will continue with dzhigitovka (horse exercises) and cavalry clashes. The show of military vehicles and equipment will be held, too, as well the reconstruction of "The offence by Nivelle".

Five sites will operate at the festival representing the peaceful life of the early twentieth century: “Aristocracy", "City", "Village", “Proletariat" and "Fair."

It is expected that in 2014 the festival will be visited, in addition to Muscovites and the residents of Moscow region, by more than 15 thousand Russian and foreign tourists, for them in “Kolomenskoye” six tourist information centers will function.

"The Times and the Epochs" each year is devoted to a new theme. In 2011, the theme of the festival was the Ancient Rus, in 2012 – the period of Moscow kingdom of the XVI–XVII centuries, in 2013 – the era of the Middle Ages.

The festival is organized with the support of Moscow Government and commissioned by the project initiator – the Committee of Tourism and hotel economy of Moscow.

The festival organizer is the Agency of historical projects "Ratobortsy".
